Online business ideas inspired by marine life and the sea are not for the fainthearted. However, if you are so in love with sea and ocean life then go for it.
And incidentally, you don't have to have special marine education or training (ex. marine biology) to start a digital business dealing with all life forms in the sea or ocean.

I would, however, veer away from the heavy lifting needed in dealing with plants, animals and other organisms that live in the ocean.
Here are some of online business ideas I have thought of which you may want to develop:

If you live by the sea, a site that documents your day to day living -- idyllic or romantic or what not -- is an interesting idea, as far as I am concerned, especially if you are an aspiring writer or an artist. Depending on your calling and circumstances, I imagine that you could create a site that will successfully pull together a living-by-the-sea site concept because the sea (or ocean) is a rich subject. Why do you think Ocean Parks are a big business?
I was born and raised in a neighborhood by the river that empties into a vast sea. Ever since I could remember, I have always wanted to find out what is life like around the small villages on the fringes of the islands by the sea. When I passed by those villages, there were always fishing boats floating, fishermen either casting their nets or pulling into the shore presumably from a night out of the high seas. There were smoke billowing out of those thatched houses dotting the white sand shorelines reminding me of my grandmother. And when I reached the harbor on the other side, I watched with amazement large fish being hauled into a truck. That was a long time ago. Today, that scene is no longer available, but the fascination still lives with me. The fascination of how seas affect life.
2. If you are into sport fishing, a site that's filled with content on your interest is just as exciting. What might the site concept be? Ocean conservation? Photography? Island and islet discovery? If you can connect your sport with marine conservation, sea life protection, environment conservation then be able to develop compelling content, I strongly believe you will be able to attract an audience that you could monetize later on.
I remember going out with my grandfather in one of his fishing trips. I was barely six. Our boat was so tiny, it looked like a floating speck on a vast billowing sea. A twenty-feet tall wave approaching us was so spectacularly scary that I always wondered why we were still floating. Two decades later, I asked my grandpa which sea we were then. He'd tell me, we were near Vietnam. Wow! Yes simply wow! I also remember I drew the various fish we caught upon reaching home.
Unfortunately, I don't have those drawings anymore. I wish I have carefully kept those. My grandpa was something. I didn't know fishing is a sport then. I am sure he didn't know, too!
I now live in Singapore. When my cousin who is one of those responsible for this site asked me, "If given a chance, what online business idea would you want to start?" I readily responded, "That's easy! I'd want to come up with an online business idea that touches on marine life, something about or that's related to the sea."
Something like inspired by my experience with my grandpa whose old-fashion knowledge of the sea still amazes. I wish he is still around.
